It all started shortly after getting married (like, literally as soon as we returned home from our very short honeymoon). Shane and I were approached by my parents, Reid and Susan, with the idea of purchasing land together to start a generational farm. Looking at them cross-eyed, we began to discuss possibilities, and excitement arose in all of us.
Little did we know it would be five years later before we actually purchased the farm. But during that time, we gained so much knowledge and passion. Once our first child, Noah, was born, the vision for the farm became clearer. We longed for a place to raise our children with the privilege and responsibility of producing their own food, and we loved the idea of them living just a short walk from their grandparents' home.
It's pretty rare these days to see multiple generations living on the same property, working side by side, raising and schooling children together, and eating regular meals together, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. It comes with great sacrifice (not every son-in-law like Shane would sign up for this lifestyle) but also great reward. Having both our sons, Noah and Caleb, here full time keeps us all on our toes!
I wouldn't trade it for the world.
As I think back on that first conversation, sitting together in Mom and Dad's living room, fresh out of college, just married and no children yet, I think to myself, "Boy, we really didn't know what we were saying yes to, but it's been an amazing journey with much more to come."
We are so excited for you to join our journey and follow along as we grow as a family farmstead.
